Corn Snakes

Corn Snakes are found throughout the United States such as Southwestern Florida, Alabama, Arkansas, west Colorado,Delaware, Illinois, Georgia, Okeetee, Kentucky, Maryland, Kansas, Mississippi, Texas, Virginia, eastern Utah, Oklahoma, and Miami. Also, they are found in Mexico and Cayman Islands.

These reptiles will reach a length of 4-6 feet at maturity. Their average life span is 15-25 years. Corn snakes tend to favor deciduous forests, farms, and rocky hillsides. These reptiles are not endangered.
Corn snakes are ready to breed one to two months after their brumation periods and they reach their sexual maturity at two years old. They do lay eggs so they are oviparous. The female snake can lay anywhere from 5-50 eggs and their gestation period is about 3-4 weeks. They can mate one or two times a year and they usually lay their eggs around July.

If you plan keeping a Corn Snake for a pet you would need a 20 gallon tank with a secure top because they will try to get out and they won't give up so you have to be careful. In the cage you can use newspaper, pine chips, or astroturf, but if you use pine chips you should take them out and place them in a tub or something big enough that they can eat on. you don't want them getting choked on a pine chip. You can feed them about every 10 days and it is better to feed them dead prey if you are keeping them as a pet. If you fed them live prey and the snake didn't eat it fast enough, the prey could end up hurting the snake. When they are adults, you can feed them medium or large mice. the temperature in the cage should be kept at 75-80 degrees F. Also, you don't need any special lighting in the cage.

The Amelanistic Corn Snake has the amelanistic genetic trait, meaning they lack the black pigment which leaves only the shade of red, orange, yellow, and white. they come in a variety of colors and patterns. There are a bunch of different corn snakes but here a few for example- Coral snow corn snake, fire corn snake, frosted creamsicle corn snake, hugh white reverse okeetee corn snkae, candy cane corn snake, butter corn snake, etc. however, the Amelanistic remains the most popular and is called 'amel' for short.
